I've never been to an event. What usually happens? Food and drink? Socializing? Event-only geocaches?

Hmmm I got a CITO in the AM in Ithaca, Vanelles event in early afternoon, I suppose if Rochester had one later in the afternoon, I ccould squeese it in! Razz

Yes, yes and yes. It can be any and all of the above. It all depends on the event organizer and what they choose to do. There is always lots of good socializing. There is usually food and drink. There are sometimes event-only caches. But there's really not any set formula for an event. Here's what they say about event caches on gc.com:
